RecyCold® Cool Pack pads

Do you, as a retailer or a company in the hospitality/food service sector, ever mail, deliver or have delivered chilled or frozen groceries, meal boxes, take-away meals or other food and/or drinks? If you do, these high-quality, insulating Cool Pack pads are an efficient and effective way to protect your products from temperature fluctuations and damage during transport and storage. You will also be preventing food waste in an eco-friendly way because Cool Pack pads are an ideal, sustainable packaging solution for products that must remain frozen while in transit in unconditioned transport. The pads comprise a sealed coated paper bag filled with a plant-based gel that freezes rapidly at around -2°C. The pads remain at a constant temperature of between 2 and 8°C or between -2 and -5°C and are suitable for both one-time and repeated use.

Sustainable and recyclable

RecyCold® Cool Pack pads are a hygienic packaging made of insulating paper. The pads comprise an outer layer of paper with a polyethylene (PE) coating and a filling of food-safe, plant-based ice gel. At the end of its life the fully biodegradable gel can be emptied into the sink, garden or bio-container. The empty paper bag can (in most countries) be recycled as paper. Printed images on the bag show how the end-user can cut the bag open and pour the gel around garden plants before putting the empty bag in with the old paper. The packaging is also printed with a QR-code the user can scan to read more information about recycling. The attractive, environmentally-responsible brown paper adds a reassuring tactile dimension to the unpacking experience.

Simple, insulating packaging

The sustainable Cool Pack pads are effective and simple in use, certainly when combined with RecyCold’s insulating paper Climaliner™. First line a paper shopping bag or (double or triple corrugated) cardboard box with Climaliners: The quantity required will depend on the length of time the package will be in transit, the product temperature and the ambient temperature. Next, insert the product(s) in the bag or box. Then select the right weight and number of Cool Packs according to the transport requirements and lay them, fully frozen, on top of the product(s). To prevent the contents shifting and to maximise insulation fill any empty spaces, for example with FillPak® filling material, before taping the bag or box closed. If taping a box use the H-tape method: stick the tape along the centre of the top to seal the entire length of the join where the folded flaps meet, making sure you allow overhang on both sides to ensure a secure seal, then tape along the box edges to seal the sides of the flaps.

Space and cost saving

Cool Pack pads are available in three sizes (200, 400 and 600 grams of gel). They are supplied laid flat on open cardboard trays so they take up very little storage space and can be frozen and processed very quickly. Because RecyCold Cool Packs freeze up to 70% faster than other cool packs you also need less freezer capacity.
